What this timer is for
The custom timer is the everyday workhorse. Punch in any duration - twenty seconds for a tea steep, six minutes for an egg, twenty-five for a Pomodoro, or a full hour for a phone-free walk - and watch the sand flow until you're done.
It's the same engine that powers the rest of Timglas, just without preset opinions. Use the four quick presets if you're in a hurry, or type the exact minutes and seconds you need.
How to use it
Three or four taps, then leave it running:
- Tap a quick preset - 1, 3, 5 or 10 minutes - or set a custom duration in the minutes and seconds fields.
- Press start. The hourglass tips over and the sand begins to flow.
- Pause any time with the pause button or the Space bar. Reset with R.
- When the timer hits zero, you'll get a sound, a desktop notification, and a calm completion screen with what to do next.
Frequently asked questions
What's the longest timer I can set?
You can set up to 999 minutes and 59 seconds in the custom inputs - about 16 hours and 40 minutes - which is more than enough for any sensible kitchen, focus or workout session.
Will it work with the sound off?
Yes. The visual hourglass is the primary signal, and a desktop notification fires when the timer ends even if your tab isn't focused. A configurable completion sound is on the roadmap.
Will my phone screen go to sleep?
On supported browsers, Timglas requests a wake lock while the timer is running so the screen stays on. If your browser doesn't support it, the system's normal screen-timeout will apply.
Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes. The timer is timestamp-based, so it keeps the right time even if the tab is backgrounded or your device sleeps briefly. When you come back, the hourglass jumps to the right state.
